Sleepwalking

Sleepwalking is a condition where an individual will get up during sleep and walk around and even carry out quite complex activity while they are actually still sleeping.

Sleep walking seems to happen in early adolescence and usually disappears by by adulthood.

Sleepwalking usually happens in the early part of the sleep cycle and is thought to occur in the REM stage of sleep.

Those who sleepwalk have no conscious memory of the sleepwalking or any memory of what they did while sleepwalking.

There is no specific cure for sleepwalking and no specific treatment either.

One of the main things is the safety of the person while sleepwalking, although sleepwalkers can and do maneuver around obstacles, if you are aware of someone in your home who is prone to sleepwalking it is a good idea to protect against accidents during an episode.

Stairs could be blocked off during the night with a child gate or simpler, avoid bunk beds and make sure that doors and windows are locked.

Although it can be quite frightening to whiteness, so long as protective measures are taken few people actually seem to suffer as a result of sleepwalking.
